This season is full of literary events to tempt you out of your home to listen, participate and be inspired. From open-mic nights to storytelling and conferences, there’s plenty to choose from. The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival runs until October 18th, with guest directors including Anthony Horowitz and Monica Ali. Visit http://cheltenhamfestivals.com/literature/ for more.

Manchester Literature Festival runs from October 18th-25th, with writers such as Kate Atkinson and Ruth Padel bringing their unique viewpoints to the north-western city.

In Bath, the third Monday of each month heralds Bath Storytelling Circle upstairs at The Raven, Queen Street, so head to the cosy pub on October 19th at 7.30pm and sup on real ales whule sharing stories, songs and poems. The only stipulation is that your words must not exceed ten minutes in duration and must be performed from memory rather than read. For further information call David on 01225 482170.

The little ones in your life get a literary treasures thanks to Seven Stories, the centre for Children’s Books based in Newcastle. Events erupt throughout the year, with storytelling parties for even the babiest baby bookworms every month. Autumn’s highlights include Twitchy Whiskers and Slinky Tales Storytelling on Sunday October 25th, when storyteller Pascale Konyn will be spilling the beans on bags of cat secrets, revealing their place in myth, legend and literature. Don’t miss Telltales Volume XI: Strange Fruit, which will be unfolding on Tuesday 27th October, Babahogs Cafe, Falmouth, from 7pm.

Telltales organiser Clare Howdle says “After a successful and busy summer, Cornwall’s monthly reading night, Telltales, took a September break but is back, ready and raring this October, bringing the best in Cornwall’s writing scene to eager listeners.”
