Blogs
Keeping a blog is a great way to get into good writing habits. By imposing a weekly or daily deadline on yourself, not to mention getting regular practice of putting together pithy, witty or thought-provoking sentences, you’re honing your skill while simultaneously providing the world with a showcase of your work, and who knows what that could lead to?
If you need some inspiration to get yourself started, or just fancy a stroll around the thinking space of some of our members, take a look at our featured blogs below.

Young People's Pursuits
Wed Sep 1st, 2010 by Beccy Downes | one commentWELL, AS THE YOUNG PEOPLE would say; O.M.G.
I went clubbing at the weekend for probably the first time in 10 years and now I thoroughly remember why I have stayed away so long. The place itself was not really very much different from how they used to look - big dance floor in the middle, bar on either side, smug DJ in the booth etc - and neither has the goings on at these places totally changed…But what is enjoyable again about queuing up for half an hour to buy a drink for £7.50?? Or about having your arse felt by… read more.
MPs pay. Should we give them more?
Wed Sep 1st, 2010 by Alan Hamilton | no commentsAN ARTICLE IN THE SUNDAY Times by AA Gill has raised my bile and spleen to dangerous levels. It’s about MPs, their pay and expenses and their continuing failure to recognise fully that their manipulation of expenses put them on a par with the ‘benefit cheats’ Dave goes on about. Some Peers, reflecting their more exalted status to that of mere members of the Commons, went overboard with this racket and will, one hopes, eventually be brought to book. Incidentally, I wonder how many of the remaining hereditary Peers fiddled their expenses.
But that’s not the part of Gill’s article… read more.
A dazzling night
Sun Aug 29th, 2010 by Judy Darley | 2 comments
On Friday night I decided to pop along to the reception for an art show that’s just arrived in Bristol following exhibitions in California and Barcelona.
Most exhibition preview invites arrive unceremoniously by email, so when the glitzy invite slid through my letterbox and demanded an RSVP, it was clear that this was going to be a night with a different air. Beautiful Again is the work of JT Burke, an American artist with an eye for bling.
JT spends his spare time trawling flea market stalls and junk shops for… read more.
Edinburgh Book Festival highlights
Fri Aug 27th, 2010 by booksanctuary | no commentsWE’VE BEEN ATTENDING QUITE A few events at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in the past couple of weeks, and it has been one of the best in years. Debates over the digital revolution of publishing and book formats such as the eBook and ‘Enhanced eBook’ were dominant in various events; I tend to think that, like in the music business, equilibrium will be found and the industry will survive. Opinions are incredibly diverse on this subject, which is fantastic!
Other highlights for me personally; Andrea Levy reading in a strong Caribbean accent with real authenticity, even though her natural… read more.
Worry
Thu Aug 26th, 2010 by Madison Walsh | no commentsWORRY IS DEFINTLEY SOMETHING NOT to be messed with. It messes up our heart, mind and at times even our own bodies. It is a horrible and quite often painful thing. It never just happens to the person, it happens then to whover loves them. If my boyfriend gets worried, therefore I do. his mates do and my mates do. Then you have his parents and then my parents. Its just one merri go round and more and more people get on. When does it end….
Sometimes it’s a short worry solved in a couple of minutes, some its days… read more.
Salt Review
Thu Aug 26th, 2010 by baxter89 | no commentsWHO IS SALT?
WELL WHEN production first began on this blockbuster this person was in fact Edwin Salt and played by Tom Cruise. However due to unforeseen Hollywood circumstances the gender was changed and filled by Angelina Jolie. They couldn’t have made a better choice as Jolie definitely fills the shoes well, even if she does look thin enough to snap sometimes!
We are introduced to the CIA agent Evelyn Salt whilst having the crap kicked out of her in a North Korean prison. Standard. She gets ‘rescued’ in a sense by a man who turns out to be her… read more.
The Lipstick Lady
Thu Aug 26th, 2010 by Hannah Lee | no commentsSITTING HERE DRINKING MY CAPPUCCINO, a new found addiction, I realise I have become that woman who leaves lipstick stains on the rims of cups. I feel rather guilty about this, thinking about the unfortunate person who will have to scrub extra hard to clean this particular cup. However, at the same time, I feel like I have reached a certain stage of my life, no longer a teenager or a student, but a woman. A woman who wears lipstick and leaves its traces on coffee cups. I feel quite proud. It looks like a piece of artwork. A mark… read more.
"New Beginnings" now on Ebay
Thu Aug 26th, 2010 by johannanield | no commentsYESTERDAY I LAUNCHED “NEW BEGINNINGS” on Ebay.
I’ve nominated 85% of the proceeds, modest as they’ll be, to be given to Headway UK, the charity that works to improve life after brain injury.
Find out more here
I’ve announced it on Facebook and Twitter, but I won’t be giving it the hard sell because I don’t want people to think I’m using the charity angle as a way of attracting buyers: that’s not my intention at all. Whilst I want to encourage sales in order to contribute to Headway, I’d rather people found it for themselves and spread the word… read more.
TECHNOLOGY-A writer's free gift
Wed Aug 4th, 2010 by junior Darlington sakwa | 3 commentsIT HAS BEEN SAID OVER and over that writers, no matter what genre or discipline should challenge themselves each day to pen down literary works. Of course this is a good way to strengthen any skill or talent. A sportsman must have a consistent practice routine to get his game up, musicians must go through vocal training and even over their past songs to keep their repertoire perfect.
Inadvertently, the efficient means of reaching a writers’ goals are hardly put into the light. One of the most efficient ways is in technology. Oooh! You are probably thinking; “What is this… read more.
Precisely what the year of 2010 Means to Promotion
Sun Aug 1st, 2010 by menghback | no commentsTHIS SPECIFIC NEW SEASON, I couldn't help but ask, “How is marketing and advertising destined to be distinct this year?”I mean, every year just about commences out the same yet some thing will eventually spruce things up.Do not telephone databases, don't fax listings, Twittollower. The reality is the fact that anything can happen! Here are just several of my personal estimations for the brand new yr, some of these have been taken by Paul Phifer.I almost certainly have to consult with the Popcorn article or something like that that is founded on reputable study, however here's just what I believe the… read more.
