Travel Weekly, the magazine and website for the travel sector, is looking for an accomplished chief sub-editor with first-rate experience in print and web publishing. In addition to producing the weekly print title and daily content on travelweekly.co.uk, the production desk in Surrey works on various supplements throughout the year.

Key responsibilities of this journalism job

You’ll be sub editing copy and writing creative headlines and standfirsts. A stickler for grammar, spelling and house style, you’ll have a knack for turning raw copy into sparkling, well-structured articles. Page layout and picture research is also part of the role, and you’ll have shared responsibility for page approvals and sending pages.

Key skills required for this journalism job

Part of your role will be people management as you will need to challenge your writers to ensure the stories they submit for publication are factually correct and of a high standard.

You will have strong copy-subbing skills and a sharp eye for detail.

A high level of skill in Indesign and Photoshop is vital. You will need excellent organisational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Above all, you will act as the guardian of high quality for the magazine and deadline, ensuring the editors, writers and designers meet their deadlines in producing the magazine and website travel sector rely on.
