Award-winning children’s author Geraldine McCaughrean will be taking part in Connecting Conversations event on December 7th 2008, discussing what she calls “the sheer wonder and possibility of story” with child psychotherapist Gerry Byrne. The event will take place at the Anna Freud Centre in London at 6pm.

Geraldine says: “I love the idea of Connecting Conversations - just not the prospect of joining one! Generally I like my books to speak on my behalf, precisely because I struggle to express myself in any other way. So I’m probably more curious than Gerry to find out what I say in answer to his questions.”

Geraldine written over 140 books, published in over 40 languages. Her books include Peter Pan in Scarlet, the official follow up to JM Barrie’s classic. She and Gerry will talk about the role of the storyteller and the effect of stories on children’s lives, and discuss McCaughrean’s work with reference to books such as The White Darkness and The Stones Are Hatching. They will also explore her strong belief in the power of imagination, which she describes as ‘the lifejacket God stows under everyone’s seat’.

Gerry says: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to talk with Geraldine McCaughrean, She is is a master storyteller, probably the most courageous and hard working writer of her generation as the sheer volume and scope of her work testifies. In her writing, whether re-telling an old tale or creating a new one, the power of her imagination shines through, both in characterisation and in the richness of her language which is full of the freshest imagery and metaphor. I am looking forward to our conversation about storytelling, imagination and her work.”
