Hosted by the historic city of Mantova (Mantua) from September 9th to 13th, the 13th annual literature festival Festivaletteratura will present a full programme of original cultural events, readings, shows and concerts.
Since 1997, Festivaletteratura has been a point of contact for book lovers as well as for inquisitive people wishing to meet writers, musicians, and actors in the piazzas and streets of Mantova.
The beautiful city is located in the northern region of Lombardy between Bologna and Parma, and is surrounded on three sides by lakes. During the Festival, Mantova opens up its palaces and private gardens to the public and lends its piazzas and streets to meetings and shows, giving you the opportunity to discover the architecture and history of the city as you immerse yourself in literature.
Writers, the public, organisers, and volunteers all contribute to the festive atmosphere. At the core of the cultural programme are the meetings between Italian writers and poets together with internationally famous writers where they speak with their readers in a casual and informal way. Highlights include the opportunity to enjoy breakfasts with authors and readings in the original language in Piazza Concordia.
You can take guided tours of the city, watch plays unfold, experience poetry readings, listen to musical performances where renowned singers reinterpret various literary traditions, and attend conferences on art, architecture, design and illustrated books.
Throughout the festival, the whole city becomes a stage where shops, cafés and restaurants in the historical centre act together to help you to discover, enjoy and appreciate Mantova as you discover, enjoy and appreciate literature.
