Imitation Fruit Literary Journal is seeking submissions of sparkling and thought-provoking short stories, creative nonfiction and poetry for the next issue of the online publication.

Editor Eva Barrows founded Imitation Fruit Literary Journal in December 2007 to showcase the talents of artists and writers in the San Francisco Bay area.

Within a year of the first issue going live, however, the biannual journal had already grown beyond the borders of America’s West Coast and now attracts and welcomes submissions from writers across the world.

“Imitation Fruit Literary Journal is an online publication that seeks to pair fun and upbeat poems and short stories with colorful and meaningful artwork bringing visual and intellectual stimulation together for the art lover and avid reader,” Eva explains. “With each issue the readership and contributions to the journal have grown, producing over 2,000 web hits to the latest issues of the journal.”

How to submit your writing to this literary journal

Poets, short story writers and non-fiction writers are invited to send up to five poems or up to 15 pages of prose

Deadlines for submissions are February 1st and August 1st of each year.

Submissions must be in the form of Word.doc attachments or pasted into the body of the email, and sent to submissions@imitationfruit.com.

Please include a short description about you and your writing.

Though the journal does not presently pay for writing used in Imitation Fruit Literary Journal, they do encourage writers to use the site as a way of promoting their work, which is a great opportunity to take advantage of.

Eva says: “If you have a website or current project that you want readers to see online, include a link and we will post it with your work. We are happy to include weblinks to other projects that contributors are working on.
