Following the success of Telltales Volume VII, part of the Darke Visions festival, Telltales returns to Cornwall on June 30th 2009 with Volume VIII: Lost and Found, and a search for new writing talent.

For this event, Telltales organisers Clare Howdle and Chelsey Flood are keen to hear from new writing talent who have not submitted before and who may not have read out their work in public before either.

“The aim of Telltales Volume VIII is to draw talented new writers out of the woodwork,” says Clare. “We are really keen to build up a creative writing community and providing a comfortable and welcoming space where new talent can share their work is a key part of that.”

The South West of England is home to a high number of creative writers, and Telltales seeks to boost the confidence and profiles of these poets, novelists, playwrights and short story writers.

But it’s not just about the fresh blood. Experienced writers are invited to submit work too so that those new to reading out loud can be programmed alongside accomplished writers and performers to raise confidence levels, skills and aspirations, and create a dynamic, pacey and engaging programme in the process.

To submit your work simply log onto the Telltales website and upload your poetry, short story, novel extract or script. If your work is selected you’ll be scheduled in.

The theme of this month’s event is Lost and Found so if you’ve got a piece of work that plays with the theme in any way or if you fancy writing something especially for the event, Chelsey and Clare would love to hear from you.

The evening kicks off at 7pm on June 30th at Babahogs cafe in Falmouth. You can bring your own alcohol (£1 corkage) or drink your fill of the tea, coffee or soft drinks on sale.

Audience members are just as important as performers, so come along for an evening of entertainment and inspiration even if you don’t want to take an active part.

Ooh, this sounds interesting, but I don’t live in Cornwall. Anything like this happening elsewhere in the UK?
