Playwrights trying to develop their writing to the point where it’s ready to be staged will benefit from the latest Write to Play event being hosted at the Lyric Hammersmith in London.

Last season’s series of Write to Play events attracted huge numbers of literature and theatre fans eager to pick the brains of some of the UK’s leading playwrights including Howard Brenton and Mark Ravenhill.

The series will continue on Monday November 16th at 8pm with playwright and screenwriter Joe Penhall. He’ll be in conversation with Simon Stephens, playwright and Lyric Artistic Associate, about his life, career and work. You’ll also have a chance to hear an extract from his unseen play Haunted Child being read.  The evening will conclude with a question and answer session.

Beginning originally as a reporter for the Hammersmith Guardian, Joe Penhall quickly became one of the most significant voices to emerge in British Theatre in the 1990s. His best known work includes the play Some Voices, performed at the Royal Court in 1994, and the 2004 film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s Enduring Love, starring Daniel Craig and Rhys Ifans.

Joe is attending the Write to Play event fresh from a press junket in LA for his new film The Road, starring Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortenssen,

Tickets cost £6 and are available from 0871 22 117 29 and www.lyric.co.uk/pl509.html
