In The Same Boat’s latest Write to Play event offers you the chance to spend an evening with the award-winning writer of Under the Blue Sky, David Eldridge.

Write to Play focuses on one leading playwright bi-monthly, with previous participants including Howard Brenton and Mark Ravenhill.

The series continues at the Young Vic theatre on Thursday January 28th at 8pm with David Eldridge. David will be in conversation with Paul Taylor, theatre critic for The Independent, about his life, career and work, prior to an extract from his play The Stock Da’wa being read. The evening will conclude with a question and answer session when you can glean advice and information about playwriting.

David Eldridge wrote his first successful play, Serving It Up while studying English literature and drama at Exeter University. After originally wanting to be a director, he took up playwriting when he realised the plays he wanted to direct didn’t yet exist.

His plays include Under the Blue Sky (Royal Court, 2000); the adaptation of the 1997 Danish Dogme film, Festen (Almeida Theatre/ West End, 2004); Incomplete and Random Acts of Kindness (Royal Court, 2005) and Market Boy (Olivier, National Theatre, 2006). Under the Blue Sky won the Time Out Live Award for Best New Play.

When asked what motivated him to take part in the Writer to Play series, he says: “I don’t believe artists should be mythologised and I think talented people should have access to artists and the art as doing so makes it seem possible one can try oneself.”

Tickets to this Write to Play event cost £8 and are available by phoning 020 7922 2922 or going to www.youngvic.org/whats-on?action=details&id=3283
