Stanley Bookman Spooky Sounds contest offers opportunities for young authors

Stories for Children Magazine is seeking submissions from children with imagination and a way with words. There is no entry fee, and submissions will be accepted until August 30th 2009.
If you’re aged 17 or under, the Stories for Children Magazine mascot Stanley Bookman needs your help to write a story about the spooky sounds you hear at night, in the backyard, or when you are camping.
Think about the times you’ve felt scared in the dark and the noises that made you feel like that.
Your story needs to be original, unpublished, and between 500 and 1,200 words long. A parent or guardian may help type your story, but you must write the story yourself, using your creativity to make it as interesting and unique as possible.
You must email all stories, along with the attached permission form signed by a parent or guardian, by August 30th 2009. Stories will not be returned, so please make sure you keep a copy for yourself. Please send only one entry and make sure you put your name, age, email address, home address, and parent or guardian’s name in the top right hand corner on the first page of your story.
If your story is judged to be one of the top three stories, you will have the thrill of seeing your work published in the magazine and read by hundreds of children, parents, teachers and writers.
The best story will be published in Stories for Children Magazine’s October issue. The author of this story will receive six-months’ personal membership to BigUniverse.com (a $30 value), where you can create your own picture books online.
The second best story will be published in Stories for Children Magazine’s November issue, and the author will receive an autographed copy of Babysitting SugarPaw by VS Grenier (a $14 value), a story about honesty, friendship and bad behaviour.
The third best story will be published in Stories for Children Magazine’s December issue
The writers of each of the three top stories will receive a Winner’s Certificate.
