So much of our time as writers is devoted to coming up with interesting, creative ideas then looking for a way to share them with the world, whether that’s by writing features, poetry, short stories, plays, novels or something else entirely. It’s all hard work, so we invite you to take a short break with us at EssentialWriters.com until you’re revved up and ready to write again!

If you’re looking for new job in the field of journalism, click on the Jobs etc tab on Monday to discover the job of the week. This section is also the spot where we post all the calls for writing submissions, and any other writing opportunities that catch our attention, so head back throughout the week to make sure you don’t miss anything!

Finding a literary agent is often an important step in getting published, so if you’re writing a novel or already have one written and ready to go, make sure you read our interview with Stephanie Thwaites on Monday afternoon. Stephanie is an agent at the Curtis Brown Group, and has some succinct words of advice to offer aspiring authors.

This interview is part of an ongoing series of conversations with literary agents, so if you’re a literary agent and would like to be included, send an email to Judy@EssentialWriters.com

On Tuesday we’ll be looking at possible outlets for your short story and poetry writing with a review of Aussie literature magazine Wet Ink and an interview with co-managing editor Dominique Wilson.

If you’ve been published by a literary magazine anywhere in the world, get on the forums and let us know – we love to hear about your successes!

We’ve been searching the internet for the best of the writing competitions out there, and think we’ve found a great one, so take a look on Wednesday to see if the Aeon Award is the one for you.

Our Friday feature this week is likely to make some of you wince in recognition as regular contributor Natasha Lavattiata laments the lot of freelance journalists seeking commissions with national newspapers and magazines. Let us know how you’re faring in the “open seas of freelancing”, as Natasha refers to them, by posting a comment or heading to the forums.

EssentialWriters.com is intended to be a resource, showcase and writing community – we’re hungry for input into how we’re achieving these aims so drop us a line at Judy@EssentialWriters.com and share your thoughts. We’re also eager to feature as many writers as possible, so if there’s a feature you’d love to write for us, a book, film, magazine or writing course you’re dying to review or anything else you’d like to tell us about, get in touch. This is your chance to get your words out there!
