Over four Saturdays this summer, you’re invited to attend Poetry in the Woods at Rocks East Woodland. Come along to as many or as few as you choose.

Taking place on June 13th, June 27th, July 11th and July 25th from 10am until 1pm, the courses are inspired by the WB Yeats line from The Song of Wandering Aengus:

I went out to the hazel wood because a fire was in my head…

If you love poetry and nature in equal measure, this course could be heaven on earth. In this relaxed and enjoyable summer school you’ll have a chance to find inspiration in the beautiful woodland of Rocks East, with its ornamental pond, grotto, sculpture trail and groves, where you will compose and craft poetry.

Each three-hour session will comprise of varied writing activities, feedback on poetry in progress and a short walk to engage the senses and fire the imagination. The stroll will take you to a local beauty spot where you will enjoy a daily poetry picnic, reciting your words and those of your favourite bards - weather permitting.

You’ll need to bring pen, paper, a notebook, packed lunch and suitable clothing and footwear for a brief walk through woodlands with some muddy, sloping paths.

The workshops are led by Kevan Manwaring. Kevan teaches creative writing through the Open University and is the author of The Bardic HandbookLost Islands and The Long Woman. He runs the small press Awen Publications.

The course are suitable for adults, and cost £15 per session. You can save £10 if you pay for all four sessions in advance at £50 before June 11th 2009.

The courses will be held at Rocks East Woodland, Ashwicke, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 8AP
