WORDS Magazine runs short story competitions throughout the year, with different themes for each. This year’s themes have been Murder, Christmas and Ghost, and though their latest writing competition has no theme, we think it would be fun to combine the previous three and write a story that begins with a festive murder and ends with a seasonal haunting.

It’s entirely up to you what you write about, however, and with no entry fee you’ve got nothing to lose.

The first prize winner will receive £100.

You can submit as many entries as you like, but your short story or stories should not exceed 2,000 words each.

All winning stories and commended entries will be published in WORDS Magazine, and may also appear in online anthologies.

How to enter this writing competition

Your names, or noms-de-plume, must appear on the cover sheet together with an approximate word count. MSS cannot be returned so make sure you keep a copy for your records.

The winners will be notified by post or email and announced in the next issue of WORDS Magazine.

Please send your entry or entries to entries@wordsmag.com, with “EMAIL” typed in the subject line. Save your story or stories as single files as either .doc or .txt files (if you use Word 2007 please save in compatibility mode). The closing date for entries is December 31st 2009.
